The LWK Tigercats remain on a quest to earn a win this season. While the Tigercats have remained competitive with multiple league opponents this year, they are still battling to earn a win for their continuous strong effort on the court.
The Tigercats had a rough outing, matching up against many of the top league opponents last week. They faced Liberty Christian on Jan. 6, and suffered an 80-20 loss.
The first quarter of the game the Tigercats were able to remain composed and competitive against the Liberty Christian team. By not allowing Liberty Christian to break away in scoring, the team was able to slow down offensively without the nerves of having to catch up. The Tigercats finished the first quarter trailing Liberty Christian by nine points.
The second quarter went heavily in favor of the Tigercats’ opponent as they went on a 26-2 scoring break. Liberty Christian would hold the Tigercats to single scoring digits for the remainder of the quarters
Chance Rice led the team in scoring with 10 points, closely followed by Jacob Johnson who scored eight points. Cole Evans added two points to the Tigercats’ final score.
The Tigercats traveled to Pomeroy on Jan. 9 with one goal in mind: break the Pomeroy press. With one of the toughest defenses in the league, the Tigercats knew they had their work cut out for them in the Friday night contest.
Pomeroy proved why they are a top contender as they cruised to an 82-21 victory over the Tigercats.
Throughout the game, Pomeroy’s defense severely limited the Tigercats’ looks at the basket, both through full court pressure and aggressive defense. The Tigercats only took 13 shots at the hoop in the entire first half.
The Tigercats finally found a good scoring rhythm late in the game, putting up 10 points in the fourth quarter after scoring only 11 points in the three previous quarters.
Exchange student Ally Fu led the Tigercats in scoring with six points, followed by Rice with five points. The McKeen brothers, Douglas and Derek, each scored three points for the Tigercats. Johnson and Evans rounded out the scoring with two points each.
The Tigercats hosted Touchet on Saturday night and suffered another tough loss, with a final score of 54-18. The LWK team again struggled to get the early points to remain competitive in scoring, and Touchet led 34-8 going into the half.
After halftime, the Tigercats were able to hold the Indians to eight points in the third quarter and only allow 20 points in the second half. The Tigercats would only be able to add 10 points to their side of the scoreboard in the second half.
Johnson stepped up to be an offensive leader for the Tigercats, battling on the boards to grab rebounds for LWK, while also attacking the basket. Johnson led the Tigercats in scoring with 10 points.
The team also relied on post player Weston Miller to contribute to the final score. Miller put up eight points for the Tigercats.
