Lady Tigercats earn win against College Place

The Lady Tigercats earned their first season win on Tuesday, Dec. 16, against College Place. The Lady T-cats also matched up against St. John-Endicott (SJE) and Liberty Christian in league competition last week.

The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus (LWK) team defeated College Place 40-16. College Place is a new team this year, consisting only of freshmen athletes.

The Lady T-cats relied on their agility and conditioning to win the game, and they also applied tough defensive pressure. In the first quarter, the LWK team held College Place scoreless and only allowed six points on the board by halftime. The Lady T-cats had an 18-6 lead going into the half.

During the game, the Lady T-cats had consistent scoring that allowed them to gradually move away from College Place. The Lady T-cats outscored College Place 22-10 in the second half.

Jazzmyn Gordon stepped up to lead the Lady T-cats scoring over half of their points with 21. Alynn Harder and Brittany Gordon each had six points. Jazlynn Webb scored four points, Logan Stanley had two and Nicole Harder sank one free throw.

On Friday, Dec. 19, the Lady T-cats hosted SJE and were handed a 12-50 league loss. The team struggled to match the intensity of the Lady Eagles, and also was suffering for a lack of players due to the holidays.

SJE remained consistent throughout the game, looking to any athlete to sink a shot. The diversity of shooters proved hard for the LWK team to cover defensively.

The Lady T-cats also had difficulty getting an open shot against the Lady Eagles’ tough defense. The LWK team was plagued by turnovers early in the game, but found more confidence as the game moved along.

J. Gordon continued to lead the Lady T-cats in scoring with six points. Webb added two points and N. Harder had four points.

The team went on the road on Dec. 20 to face Liberty Christian. After a strong first quarter by the Lady T-cats, the game quickly went in favor of Liberty Christian, who earned the 73-22 win.

In the first quarter, the Lady T-cats were successful on both ends of the court. They limited Liberty Christian’s scoring opportunities on defense, and put up 10 points offensively to bring the first quarter score to 10-19.

Liberty Christian turned up the pressure in the second quarter, and outscored the LWK team 24-8. The Lady T-cats were unable to close the scoring gap during the remainder of the game.

Webb led the Lady T-cats offensively, putting 10 points on the board. N. Harder and J. Gordon each had eight points. B. Gordon scored two points.

The Lady T-cats now enjoy a two week break in games, but will continue to fine tune their skills in practice. The team will need to work on ball movement offensively to find the open shot, and continue tough defense.
