Herbert Alfred Smith

Herbert Alfred Smith, 86, was born on Nov. 18, 1928 in Lind, and died on Nov. 19, in Spokane, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Herbert was a Spokane area resident for 60 years. He graduated from high school in Ritzville in 1948.

Herbert later joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Herbert was a farmer in Ritzville and Colbert, before retiring in 1998.

He was a member of the Half Moon Grange.

Herbert was the youngest of 12 children. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Renee at the home; daughter, Jean Ripley (Curt) of Spokane; sister, Vera Nissen of Seattle; two grandchildren, Kameron and Breanna Ripley of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Family Home Care Private Duty, especially Nickie and Terri. As well to Gentiva Hospice and the 3rd floor nursing staff at Holy Family Hospital for all their care!

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home and Crematory, 4305 North Division, Spokane.
