The Seattle Seahawks announced on Nov. 6 that Greg Whitmore, Head Coach of the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague football team, was selected as one of the Week Nine “NFL High School Coaches of the Week” for Washington.
“I’ve never really truly ever thought of these as individual, in fact they’re not individual awards to me.” Whitmore said. “I don’t get these without a great coaching staff and good players and supportive parents.”
Whitmore has been the recipient of this award three times now.
With this honor he receives a $500 cash donation for the football program from the Seahawks, a $225 Sports Authority gift, Seahawks jacket and a personalized football courtesy of the Washington Army National Guard.
“We’ve been looking at a blocking sled for this next year, so we’ll put it to good use for sure,” Whitmore said.
He added that the $225 Sports Authority gift might have to go to cold weather gear for the coaches for the upcoming game against Brewster.
He also received two tickets to watch the Seahawks play against the San Francisco 49ers. These he will be giving to assistant coaches Jason Aldrich and Jason Hilzer to thank them for their hard work.
“I want them to be honored, they deserve it,” Whitmore said.
The NFL High School Coach of the Week Program aids in the development of youth football by recognizing coaches for their performance and providing financial assistance in maintaining and upgrading football programs.
“It’s good for our program.” Whitmore said, “Our program is well respected I’m happy for that and pleased that I can send our coaches, but I want everyone to know that it’ll say Greg Whitmore on the plaque but it really should say LRS Coaching Staff. So maybe I’ll white my name out and put LRS Bronco Coaching Staff on the certificate.”
Whitmore will also be entered to win the Jim Ennis Award for High School Coach of the Year. The winner of this award will receive a $2,000 cash grant.
