Tigercats’ season concludes in non-league game

The LWK Tigercats traveled to Dayton on Nov. 6 with the hope of capturing their first win of the season.

Dayton and LWK both had been battling for the first win of the season. The Tigercats concluded their season without recording a win, as Dayton earned the eight-man victory, 58-28.

The game began in favor of the Bulldogs, who scored the first touchdown of the game on the first possession.

An interception in the first quarter would then lead to the Bulldogs’ second touchdown of the quarter before the Tigercats were able to put up points and bring the game to an 8-12 score.

The first touchdown for the Tigercats was earned off of a 25-yard run by quarterback Chance Rice. The Tigercats managed to move the ball 60 yards before Rice’s quarterback keeper. Tom VanCamp caught a pass from Rice to earn the extra two-points.

The Bulldogs would then go on to score 38 unanswered points on the Tigercats.

The Tigercats were plagued with fumbles, and the four of the seven fumbles were recovered by Dayton. While the Tigercats struggled to get back into rhythm, the Bulldogs marched at will down the field while putting up strong defensive stops for losses against the Tigercats.

Late in the second half, the Tigercats began to find success in their running game.

Senior Kaese Ramos ran the ball into the end zone on a 57-yard run, but the two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Bulldogs would score one more touchdown for the game, followed by two Tigercats touchdowns.

VanCamp found the end zone for the Tigercats in the fourth quarter, running 40 yards for the touchdown. Rice completed a pass to Ramos for the extra two points.

Ramos completed the final touchdown of the Tigercats’ season on a 12-yard pass from VanCamp. The two-point conversion attempt was stopped short of the end zone, bringing the final game score to 28-58.

Throughout the season, both teams suffered from injured or sick players, but both teams finished the season relatively whole compared to the weeks before. The Tigercats were without starter Derek McKeen, who suffered a concussion in the Oct. 31 game against St. John-Endicott.

In the game, the Tigercats had nine first downs and rushed 44 times for 250 yards. Both quarterbacks had two interceptions, and Rice threw nine passes with four completions.

VanCamp led the Tigercats in rushing with 99 yards on 18 carries. Ramos secured three runs for the total of 67 yards, while Rice added 59 yards on 12 carries. Cole Evans had seven yards on two carries.

In passing, VanCamp also led the LWK team with three completions for a total of 32 yards.
