Flag football comes to Ritzville Saturday

Jimmie Snider Field is set to be the site of a flag football tournament for over 300 youth football players on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. and is expected to conclude around 4 p.m.

Around 70 children from the Lind and Ritzville communities are prepped to play in the season’s final games on Saturday. The students competing in the daylong event are students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Jimmie Snider Field is being divided into three playfields to host the event, allowing three games to be played simultaneously.

Three local kindergarten through first grade teams begin the day’s festivities at 9 a.m., with Coach Aaron Esser’s team taking on Odessa on Field 1, and Coach Kristin Boness’ team facing Davenport on Field 3.

Essers’ team returns to the field at 10 a.m. to play the Wilbur-Creston on Field 1, while Coach Luke McRae leads his squad on to Field 2 to play the other Wilbur-Creston team.

The Lind-Ritzville No. 1 second and third grade team plays Davenport on Field 1 at 11 a.m., coached by DJ Williamson.

Paul McAnally leads another group of second and third grade students on to the field at 11 a.m. to battle Davenport.

The Lind-Ritzville No. 2 team, also coached by Williamson, plays at 12 p.m. on Field 2 against Wilbur-Creston.

Another second-third grade team led by Rob Melcher plays on Field 3 against Odessa.

At 1 p.m., John Galbreath leads the Lind-Ritzville fourth and fifth grade squad onto the field to play Davenport on Field 1.

Galbreath returns to the field with a fourth through fifth grade team at 2 p.m. on Field 1 to play against Wilbur-Creston.

The Lind-Ritzville fourth through sixth grade team coached by Derek Schafer also plays at 2 p.m., on Field 3 against Wilbur-Creston.
