Igniting interest in science

Lind-Ritzville Middle School hosted its Community Science night on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with Alexe Heimke, Education Coordinator for the Mobius Science Center, putting on a display of chemistry for community members.

In one of the demonstrations, she performed the “Swoosh, Fwoosh, Ahhhh” where she ignites flammable gasses trapped inside of the water jug.

The Mobius Science Center is one of the few locations allowed to perform this demonstration because of the danger involved with the ignition. Heimke said that sometimes the gas does not ignite when expected and some people have been burned when they try to investigate the delay. - Journal photo by Tyler Fryberger II
