Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
After a tough homecoming match the Lady Broncos took on the Saint George’s Dragons in an away game.
The Broncos were able to take the match in three despite being down a middle hitter. Madison Harder injured her ankle during the Wilbur-Creston match and therefore was unable to play during the away game. They also had two players who, due to sickness, had no voice.
Head Coach Cari Galbreath said the team did a good job of taking care of business and maintaining their level of play against their opponent.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the Lady Broncos would host the Davenport Gorillas.
Galbreath said this game would be a big one, saying the matches against Davenport are always a battle.
The two teams faced each other earlier in the year at the Jamboree but many things have changed. Galbreath was not sure if Libero Jana Mattox would be present for the game on Tuesday because of sickness.
Galbreath said if the Broncos could execute and expect Davenport to return the ball they would win.
The Broncos fell to Davenport after close fought sets. Davenport would take the first two sets 25-18 and 25-23. The Broncos were able to answer back in the third set 25-20 but then fell 14-25 in the final set.
Mallory Kessler would lead the Bronco offense with 15 kills and two aces. On the defensive front Mattox, Sara Aldrich and Jenna Bennett would lead the Broncos with 44 of the teams 49 digs.
On Thursday the Broncos will Travel to face the Lancers in Spangle.
Their team is much improved from previous years Galbreath said, and during the Rosalia Tournament they were the only team to beat the Broncos. Galbreath expected them to be excited and out to beat the Broncos again.
She was confident, however that the Broncos would be able to put up a good game against the Lancers, saying they were not as “scrappy” as Davenport and Wilbur-Creston and if the team could shut down Liberty’s middle hitter they would be in a good position to beat the Lancers.
