The Lady Tigercats went on the road Tuesday, Sept. 30, to face Liberty Christian in a league match. The team added another win to their record with a three-set win, 25-14, 25-10, 25-4.
LWK Head Coach Sandy Martin said the Liberty Christian team is a new team to the league, as they did not compete last season.
Martin said the Lady T-cats maintained control of the match while Liberty Christian struggled with serve receive and consistency. Though the Liberty Christian team is still working on strengthening skills, Martin is sure they will be competitive when the teams meet again later in the season.
Nicole Harder had an outstanding night for the Lady Tigercats, serving a nearly perfect game and earning 15 aces. Martin said it was the first time in her 25-year career as coach where she has witnessed a volleyball player earn 15 aces.
Gail Harder added four kills to the LWK score, and Nicole Harder also had eight assists. Britte Harder racked up eight digs and Abby McGregor recorded two blocks.
As a team, the Lady Tigercats had 29 aces and served 96 percent from the line. Martin said she is extremely proud of how the girls were able to keep up the intensity and spirit throughout the match.
The LWK team traveled to St. John on Oct. 2 and returned home with a league loss, 14-25, 14-25, 25-22, 17-25.
The Lady Tigercats faced a volleyball squad of returning starters, and a tall and offensively strong St. John-Endicott team. Martin said the Lady Tigercats struggled to get the ball over their block, and have been working on the feat in practice.
The Lady Tigercats had a solid passing and serving game, but had too many hitting and digging errors to win the match. Martin credits the third set win to SJE breaking town and the Lady Tigercats taking advantage of it. Martin said there is a lot of improvements to be made for the next match up, but the team is working hard in hopes of earning the next match win.
“The girls feel ready to take on the second half of the season, they are building their confidence, and becoming more consistent every day,” Martin said.
Jazzmyn Gordon stepped up to lead the team with 13 digs and two blocks. Nicole Harder added 14 assists and Jessica Guske had five kills. Gail Harder had four aces.
