Natalie Greenwalt strives for expertise in beauty, health care

Natalie Greenwalt does more than hair; one might say she is a one-stop beauty and health expert.

She began her education at Washington State University after graduating from Ritzville High School.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in general business.

Natalie started at Paul Mitchell the School in September of 2001, attending night classes because her job required her to work mornings. She eventually would switch from part time to full time student and would complete the course in 13 months.

While there she learned the basics of hair dressing as well as participating in theory classes and being able to work under the supervision of more experienced hairdressers.

She also had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas twice for Caper, and she had the opportunity to learn from famous hairdressers.

“You get to learn something new every time you go,” Natalie said

While she was there she met co-founder John Paul Dejoria along with the son of Paul Mitchell, Angus Michell.

After graduating from the cosmetology department Natalie received her license from the state of Washington and began cutting hair out of her home in Spokane while working full time at Starbucks.

After moving back to Ritzville she started her salon in January of this year.

“I love it, I love my clients and I love being here at night, I like where it’s just me and the client at night usually,” she said.

Natalie works full time at an accounting firm in town and then opens her salon on Saturdays.

She can handle a range of requests from basic cutting and coloring to up-dos, airbrushed make-up, waxing and pedicures. She has also done a few bridal parties and prom makeovers and will be doing the make-up and hair for Ashely Dirks’ bridal party on Oct. 4.

Before starting at Paul Mitchell Natalie also went to massage therapy school as well and is a massage therapist, though she does not offer massage therapy yet, she is also a certified lyphedema therapist.

Natalie eventually plans to rent the backroom in the building she is currently in to offer massage therapy.

Natalie started additional classes at SCC to become an esthetician in addition to her extensive beauty resume last week.

It’s something I’ve always wanted to do so I’m really excited,” she said.

Because of this she will be open on Saturdays until she completes the program.

Natalie said she couldn’t see not doing everything she wants too and focusing on just hair styling and not offering massage therapy and skin care or even just specializing in hair coloring or cutting.

“If I had to choose I don’t think I could,” she said.

She said that each aspect of her business was rewarding in its own way and that sometimes it’s a haircut that she really likes or seeing someone who she has worked with in massage therapy experience less pain but each experience is equally rewarding.

“It’s those things that you know you make a difference,” she said.

In addition to her services, Natalie offers Paul Mitchell products at her salon.

“I remember from when I was a little girl using Paul Mitchell shampoo,” she said, “and that smell.”

She said she was proud to go to a great school. She picked it so she did not have to travel to her top pick school, which is in Santa Monica.

“Paul Mitchell, people know Paul Mitchell, if you were to go to a different state and say I graduated from Glen Dow I don’t know if people would know what that is,” she said, “ but if you say you graduated from Paul Mitchell people know.”

Natalie can be contacted to schedule an appointment by phone at 509-660-0819 or by email at [email protected].
