Historical society sets annual meeting

Bruce Bjornstad of the Lake Lewis Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute is this year’s guest speaker at the Adams County Historical Society’s annual meeting on Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Washtucna School beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Bjornstad is a renowned geologist in Washington and Oregon who has recently written two books on the Ice Age Floods. Both serve as field guides to travel and study the ancient floods that helped shape the region.

He will discuss the Ice Age Floods from the geology, hydrology, and history to the impact today. Bjornstad will also have books available to purchase at the meeting.

A resident of Richland, Bjornstad has studied the Ice Age Floods since 1980. He recently retired as a senior research scientist at the Battelle-Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. As an active member of the Ice Age Floods Institute, he regularly lectures and leads field trips on the subject.

The Washtucna band is in charge of the meal.

Tickets are $22 per person and are available at the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce office in Ritzville at 111 West Main, and also at the Ritzville Public Library with Karin Clinesmith.

Individuals interested in attending the event are requested to buy advanced tickets so organizers can have an accurate head count.

Deadline to purchase tickets is Sept. 20.
