DUST STORM. A rolling dust cloud, known as a haboob, rolled into Ritzville just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12. The wall of dust quickly enveloped the city and left it in black out conditions. A massive dust storm rolled aggressively through the area around 5 p.m. on Aug. 12 and left chaos in its wake. The rolling dust cloud left Adams County in complete darkness as it blanketed the area, and brought with it a severe thunderstorm.
Prior to the dust storm, Ritzville Fire Department had been dispatched to a haystack fire at Danekas Road and Sprague Lake. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and crews remained on the scene for nearly seven hours.
Sprague Fire and Jake Harder assisted with battling the blaze, while a farmer brought in equipment to pull the haystack apart. R...
