Despite heat county crews continue maintenance, Danekas Road Project

The Adams County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Aug. 4, at the Adams County Courthouse in Ritzville.

Each session brought reports from various agencies within the county.

During the Public Works session Director Todd O’Brien reported crews would be pre-leveling starting in the Othello area and ending in the Lind area, as well as continuing gravel road maintenance.

Because of the heat, seal coating would not resume until at least next week in the Othello area.

He reported approximately three days of seal coating remained to be completed in Adams County.

O’Brien also said the solid waste department was still down two truck drivers.

They have been able to keep up with hauling solid waste by supplementing drivers from maintenance crews but that when seal coating resumes they may have to look for truck drivers to hire.

Engineer Scott Yaeger presented the commissioners with the contract and contract bond for the second phase of the Danekas Road project.

The commissioners unanimously agreed to sign the contract and contract bond with Central Washington Asphalt for the paving of Danekas Road.

Yaeger then reported the contractor was working on finishing the gravel portion of the project.

He reported the contractor was on schedule to be completed by Aug. 15. Yaeger also said ideally the paving would begin Aug. 25.

However, the road would not be opened until after Labor Day weekend to allow crews to stripe the road.

The session ended with O’Brien advising he planned to turn in his budget for next year to the commissioners by Friday, Aug. 8.
