Ritzville Police Department Reports

June 6, 8:22 p.m.- Sergeant Cameron responded to West Seventh Avenue where a complainant had advised of a blue pickup driving erratically. Cameron remained in the area for about 30 minutes but was unable to locate the subject.

June 6, 10:29 p.m.- A complainant on East Birch Street advised that their child was not at home after the court ordered curfew. Sergeant Cameron contacted the complainant who advised that the child was not in their room or in the house. A report was filed with the Adams County Juvenile Court.

June 7, 6:00 p.m.- A complainant on West First Avenue advised the lock on a storage container had been cut but it did not appear that anything had been taken.

June 7, 7:53 p.m.- Chief McCormick and Sgt. Cameron responded to South Bauman Street where a complainant advised that a group of teenagers were threatening their grandchild. Subjects were contacted and were told to leave the area and leave each other alone.

June 8, 12:20 a.m.- While on patrol Sgt. Cameron located a juvenile on North Division Street. Subject was recognized as juvenile who has a court ordered curfew. Sergeant Cameron transported the juvenile home and sent a report to Adams County Juvenile Court.

June 8 3:05 a.m.- A complainant on East Sixth Avenue advised that subjects had thrown something into their yard. Sergeant Cameron responded but was unable to locate the subjects or find anything out of the ordinary at the complainant’s home.

June 8, 5:39 p.m.- Sergeant Cameron contacted a complainant that advised their car was missing. Cameron entered the car as stolen. Several hours later the complainant advised that the car had been returned and that it did not appear anything had been stolen out of it. Cameron asked dispatch to take the vehicle out of the system as stolen.

June 9, 1:42 a.m.- Sergeant Cameron responded to a fire on South Jackson Street. Subject had stained their deck and placed items in the garbage tote with the lid open. The fire chief believed that it might have ignited from spontaneous combustion. Once the fire was out all units cleared from the scene.

June 9, 1:28 p.m.- Sergeant Cameron contacted a complainant who reported that they had lost their wallet at a gas station while on their way to Spokane. The complainant reported that along with their credit cards and $200 cash there might have been social security numbers in their wallet. Cameron advised them to contact the three major credit-monitoring agencies to report that their social security numbers may be compromised.

June 9, 6:01 p.m.- Sergeant Cameron responded to West Galbreath Way where a complainant reported seeing a subject drinking a beer in their car. Cameron observed the car in the city but did not detect signs of impairment. Trooper Mark Shepherd took over observation as the vehicle entered the freeway.

June 9, 6:40 p.m.- Officer Gracie responded to East Eighth Avenue after a complainant reported a collision. Gracie found that the vehicle had reversed into the house. The complainant advised that they had the insurance information. Gracie advised them to obtain a civilian collision report from the Washington State Patrol website.

June 10, 10:11 a.m.- Chief McCormick responded to Whittlesey Street where a suspicious vehicle had been reported. The vehicle was not at the location when McCormick arrived.

June 10, 12:03 p.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant on East Alder Avenue. The complainant advised they had sold two vehicles and a camper trailer to subjects who had not yet paid for them. The complainant reported that they still had the titles and wanted the vehicles back. The subjects were contacted and advised McCormick that they would pay the complainant later that week and would contact them that evening.

June 10, 12:32 p.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant on West Second Avenue. The complainant advised that a subject was harassing them with text messages and calls and that they wanted the subject to stop. McCormick advised the complainant to have the phone carrier block the number and to let the subject know that a police report has been filed.

June 10, 3:59 p.m.- A complainant on West Birch Avenue advised of a trailer that was set up in front of a residence. The complainant thought that there was a family living in it. Chief McCormick observed a trailer at the reported address with water lines and cable. McCormick notified the clerk’s office to have a code compliance letter sent to the address.

June 10, 5:16 p.m.- A complainant advised that the women’s bathroom in the park had been vandalized. The video camera system in the park was checked but was found to be not functioning properly. The system was fixed and patrols in the area of the park were increased.

June 11, 12:54 a.m.- Officer Gracie assisted with a medical call on East Elm Avenue.

June 11, 8:20 a.m.- Chief McCormick mediated a citizen dispute on East Broadway Avenue.

June 11, 11:53 a.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant who advised their friend was suicidal. Complainant advised that the subject had left town. Dispatch sent out an attempt to contact for a welfare check. McCormick did not obtain any information that the subject was actually suicidal.

June 11, 3:35 p.m.- Chief McCormick responded to a report of assault on West Third Avenue. McCormick contacted subjects at the location who had a dispute over custody of a juvenile. McCormick took statements from both subjects and a report was forwarded to the City Attorney.

June 11, 9:24 p.m.- Officer Gracie contacted a subject on East Third Avenue. A complainant had reported that the subject was yelling obscenities. Subject advised that they had been working in the garden and had used an obscene word. The subject was advised to avoid using obscenities while outside to avoid conflicts with neighbors.

June 12, 12:09 a.m.- Officer Gracie responded to Smitty’s Boulevard where a complainant advised of a subject looking through windows of Cedars Inn. Gracie conducted a sweep of the area but did not locate anyone.

June 12, 12:40 a.m.- Officer Gracie responded to East Fourth Avenue where a complainant advised of a subject prowling cars and attempting to burglarize a garage. Gracie conducted a sweep of the area but did not locate the subject. He contacted the complainant who advised the sudject had been last seen running on East Third Avenue.

June 12, 7:52 a.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant on East Eighth Avenue who reported their vehicle had been rummaged through the night before. They advised nothing had been taken and they just wanted to report the incident.

June 12, 10:29 a.m.- Chief McCormick responded to West Second Avenue where a complainant advised that their garage and vehicle had been gone through. The only thing missing was a hard root beer out of the garage refrigerator.

June 12, 11:54 a.m.- A complainant from West Second Street advised Chief McCormick that their truck had been prowled sometime during the night. They advised that nothing had been taken but they wanted to report the incident to the police.

June 12, 12:03 p.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant on East Sixth Avenue that advised of a subject harassing their parents. The complainant advised that the subject keeps driving past their house. McCormick advised the complainant that he had already contacted the subject and he could not stop the subject unless the complainant obtained a restraining/anti-harassment order from the court.

June 12, 2:59 p.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant on Main Avenue who advised that trespassing occurred in May. McCormick advised the complainant that the incident had been investigated and referred to a prosecutor. The matter had been reviewed and the prosecutor felt there were not any criminal intentions and he would not be filing any charges.

June 12, 2:59 p.m.- Complainant on East Birch Avenue reported that their shop had been burglarized sometime in the last two weeks. Complainant requested that an officer come down to look over the situation and the damage done to the vehicle. Complainant said that whenever there was an officer free.

June 12, 4:59 p.m.- While following up on vehicle prowls and burglaries Chief McCormick was contacted by a complainant who wanted two subjects trespassed from their property. Complainant was advised to send a letter to subjects advising them they had been trespassed from the property and to not come back. The complainant was also advised to provide a copy of the letters to the police department and an officer would contact the subjects and advise them of the trespass order.

June 12, 5:52 p.m.- Chief McCormick contacted a complainant on West Second Avenue who reported that two of their vehicles and their garage had been prowled. Complainant reported that a set of keys and two cans of spray paint had been taken.

June 12, 5:56 p.m.- While investigating a burglary on West Second Avenue a complainant advised Chief McCormick of a juvenile walking past with two mason jars of marijuana buds.

June 12, 7:12 p.m.- While Chief McCormick was investigating several burglaries and car prowls on West First Avenue he found a game console and confirmed that its serial number matched one that had been stolen and returned in 2008. McCormick contacted the owner who responded to pick up their items. The property owner did not know whom the console belonged to and reported that some children brought it over. It was discovered that one of the children was the console owners’ child. The console owner collected their property.
