Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
The 2014 wheat harvest season officially began approximately July 10 when the first loads of grain arrived at Union Elevator and Ritzville Warehouse Companies’ terminals.
Harvest has begun all over the county; with Ritzville Warehouses’ Roof Station and Union Elevators’ Bruce Station being the first to receive any commodity.
Ritzville Warehouse reported that all of its elevators except Edwall and Edens were open and receiving grain.
The yield this year is down from the previous three years. However, it is still average for the area.
Ritzville Warehouse and Union Elevator also reported that the quality of the grain is still very good despite the lower yield.
Farmers are expected to be transporting wheat and moving equipment to their fields throughout the month of August.
