Children can still register for Summer Reading Program

Every kid that reaches their summer reading goal by Saturday, Aug. 30, earns a free book and other prizes. Additional prizes include Wheat Land Communities’ Fair Bucks and a coupon for a free pizza from Cow Creek.

The books being received as prizes have been purchased from a $400 donation from AAUW. The funds were raised during the annual Scholastic book sale.

Along with the prizes, each child also earns 20 tickets to put in a prize drawing to be held the first week of September. Zip’s Drive-In donated $200 and Columbia Bank donated $50, which allowed us to purchase a Kindle Fire, Razor scooter, and other fun prizes like a home science kit, Q-B-Maze kit, and ZOOB Challenge kit. Big Bend Bowl also donated a certificate for a free bowling party.

Kids can earn tickets for the prize drawing by attending the weekly programs. Lego Club is every Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. through the end of August, Movie Matinees are every Friday at 2 p.m. through the end of August, the last kid craft day is Thursday, July 24, at 10 a.m., and the summer party with magician Dick Frost is Thursday, July 31, at 2 p.m.

It is not too late to sign up for the summer reading program, and any child infant to teen can sign up and set a reading goal for the rest of the summer.
