Fryberger joins The Journal staff as reporter

Tyler Fryberger II has joined the staff of The Journal as a part-time reporter, effective June 17.

Fryberger’s responsibilities include writing articles, attending and reporting on area meetings, and photographing local events.

A 2009 Ritzville High School graduate, Fryberger is the son of Tyler and Rita Fryberger, who reside in Lind.

He has two younger brothers, Marshall and Matthew, who also graduated from the local high school.

Fryberger attended school as a chemical engineering major at Florida A&M before transferring to the University of Idaho to pursue a degree in public relations.

He originally traveled to Florida on a Naval scholarship and was active in the ROTC program before being disqualified medically from hip surgery.

He graduated from U of I in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations, and a minor in Naval Science.

Fryberger’s interest in the journalism field began in high school when he served as the editor for the school paper.

He is a self-described Photoshop junkie, and always enjoyed his journalism classes at the high school and college level.

After transferring to U of I, Fryberger reevaluated his initial career choice and decided to focus on public relations as a future career.

While he focused on PR, he said he liked the journalism classes he took as part of the course curriculum in the program.

While in college, Fryberger continued to work for Ritzville Warehouse in the summers and maintained a full-time job at Pets Are People Too pet shop beginning his junior year.

Fryberger said while he liked working in the pet store, he was always looking for the opportunity to start his career and use his degree.

When he heard about the position at The Journal, he consulted an advisor and determined the job opening would suit him well.

“This sounds really good, I’m going to take it,” Fryberger said about his reaction to being offered the position. “I’m hoping to get experience and start out in the journalism field.”

The reporter position provides Fryberger with an opportunity to get his foot in the door in a field he hopes to expand his career in.

Fryberger brings with him a college degree and a passion for perfection, especially in terms of grammar. He also serves as a primary proofreader for the publication during his time as a reporter.

In his part-time position, Fryberger is in The Journal office on Monday and Tuesday on a weekly basis, and also will begin attending community events as a photographer as needed.

He can be contacted by email at [email protected] or by phone at 659-1020.
