The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce is changing how the grand marshal for the Ritzville Community Parade is selected. Starting this year, the chamber will accept nominations from educational institutions, civic, social, business or religious groups or by any interested individual using a specific form available at the chamber office.
Deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, June 27.
According to the nomination form, “The nominee must have made a significant contribution outside of his/her employment or service responsibilities in one or more of the following categories: education, human services (medicine, military, social services, etc.), leisure services (arts, entertainment and sports), religious services from within the Ritzville area, significant community contributions, lifetime achievements with lasting community impact and career accomplishments.”
In order to be selected as a grand marshal, the chamber board will consider the following selection criteria.
The individual must be born, raised or contributed their time, talents or gifts to the City of Ritzville. The recipient may be a past or present community member who is serving or has served in the U.S. military, or current or past employee of a veteran’s organization.
The nominee must be in good standing in the community, and activities should be above and beyond the nominee’s profession, paid work or normal call of duty.
Age is not a factor, but nominee must be at least 18 years of age.
Areas of consideration include community service, personal accomplishment or awards, length of time living in the community, personal deeds and dedication to the community.
Members of the chamber’s board of directors, along with their spouses and children, are not eligible to serve as grand marshal. Previous grand marshals are ineligible.
Persons previously nominated, but not selected, may be nominated again. The chamber board reserves the right to select a grand marshal whose name was not submitted through the nomination process.
