Eight Broncos reserve spot at state track meet

The LRS Broncos competed in the NE 2B District Meet on May 20 at Whitworth University and had eight athletes earn the right to compete at the 2B State Championship meet on May 30-31.

Individually, Ryan Whitmore is making a return trip to state in both of the hurdle races after placing first in both races at the district meet.

Alan Field has also qualified for state in the 300-meter hurdles race.

Heidi Hennings finished as the district champion in the 3200-meter race, which secures her with a trip to state to compete. Hennings also placed second in pole vault and will return to state to compete in that event.

The LRS girls’ relay teams secured three, second place finishes at the district meet. With the placement, Holly Nygren, Maya Wahl, Caitlin Schoessler, Kate Schell and Felicia Ziemer all have an opportunity to run in the relays at state.

Schell qualified individually in the 100-meter for state, and Ziemer has also qualified in the 800-meter.

Overall at the district meet, the girls finished in fourth with 81 points, and the boys placed sixth with 52 points.

110 hurdles: 1, Ryan Whitmore 15.42.

300 hurdles: 1, Whitmore 41.24. 2, Alan Field 45.89.

4x100: 6, Witt, Field, Whitmore, Hennings 46.37.

Shot put: 12, Hennings 35-02.50.

Pole vault: 4, O’Brien 10-00.00. 5, Kiel 9-06.00.

Long jump: 7, Field 16-07.75.
