Memorial Day weekend schedule filled with events, activities

The Memorial Day weekend always provides residents and visitors with an endless amount of activities during the holiday weekend.

Here is a schedule and brief description of events occurring this weekend.

Thursday, May 22

The first screening of “Dryland”, a documentary film based around residents of Adams County, shows at The Ritz Theater at 8 p.m.

Filmmakers Sue Arbuthnot and Richard Wilhelm will be present on Thursday and Friday, as will other cast members.

Friday, May 23

Filmmakers and residents return to The Ritz Theater for the second screening of “Dryland.” The film begins at 8 p.m. at the historic theater.

Saturday, May 24

For the second consecutive year, the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Ritzville Small Town Cache Cow geocaching event at 9 a.m. at the Ritzville Public Library.

Also downtown, Uniquely Washington celebrates its Grand Opening from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

At the library, Jim Roloff is doing a book signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The third and final screening of “Dryland” begins at the Ritz Theater at 2 p.m.

The day concludes with the alumni banquets in Ritzville and Washtucna. Ritzville and Lind-Ritzville High School alumni are invited to attend a dinner at Gilson Gymnasium at 6 p.m.

The Washtucna High School Alumni Banquet also begins at 6 p.m. at the Washtucna School.

Sunday, May 25

With a new location, the Ritzville Classic Car Club is continuing the annual car show with Classics on Main Street. The classic car show begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m.

Many downtown businesses are coordinating with the event to supply visitors with specials.

The new location in downtown Ritzville is expected to be the highlight of the annual event.

Monday, May 26

On the Memorial Day holiday, residents are invited to attend the Pancake Breakfast, hosted by the Ritzville Fire Department. The meal is served from 7-11 a.m. at the fire station.

The Washtucna Pioneer Memorial Cemetery services begin at 11 a.m. with a prayer, readings and honoring veterans. The service is followed by a luncheon and a WWII presentation at the Washtucna Community Church.

The Ritzville Memorial Cemetery services begin at 11:30 a.m. with a prayer and the presentation of colors by the local Honor Guard.
