Delivering back-to-back losses to Liberty on Saturday, the LRS Lady Broncos have a tight grip on fifth place in Northeast 2B League play this season.
The position is a vast improvement over last year and head coach Paul McAnally is thrilled his team is doing so well.
The Lady Broncos host Colfax in the final regular season league games of the year on Saturday.
McAnally said the team is in good shape to advance to district tournament play, which begins on May 13.
Saturday the team defeated Liberty 15-5 in the first game.
Emma Aldrich recorded the win in six innings with three strikeouts and no walks. She gave up eight hits and two earned runs.
Alarah Pierce-Pulliam, Laurel Hayes and Kim Gimmaka were 2 for 4 at the plate.
Gimmaka had an inside-the-park homerun.
In the second game the Lady Broncos scored 17 runs in two innings to blast Liberty, 17-6.
“We got down early, 4-0, going into the third inning,” McAnally said. “We didn’t panic and kept at it. It was nice to see us finish so strong. Everybody got into that game.”
Aldrich was the winning pitcher in the contest.
Emily Kinney and Jana Mattox were 2 for 4 at the plate and Gimmaka scored three times.
“It was nice to get everybody in this game. We kept the momentum going which was good to see,” McAnally said. “We were able to string together a bunch of hits.”
The Lady Broncos scored their 17 runs on nine hits.
“I feel like all year we have hit the ball pretty well,” McAnally said. “We are averaging 10 runs a game. I am pretty happy where we are hitting wise.”
