Margaret Johnson died from a heart attack on March 22 at the Royal Columbian assisted care facility in Kennewick at the age of 88. She was a loving mother, wife, sibling and a true friend to many.
Margaret was born on Nov. 11, 1925, to Fred and Alvina Meise in Quincy, Ill. Margaret graduated from Washtucna High School in 1944.
Shorty after she went to work for the telephone company and after 37 years of service, retired in 1988. Margaret spent almost as many years retired as working and visited all 50 states, walking many as a member of the Tri-City Windwalkers, and generally never stopped going.
Margaret was preceded in her death by her husband of 35 years Russell Johnson, son Craig Johnson, and brothers Donald, Harold and Butch Meise.
She is survived by son Mark (Angela) Johnson; daughter-in-law Judy Johnson; sister Alvera Zeller of Ritzville; brothers Earl (Mona) Meise of Odessa; Tom (Nancy) Meise of Moses Lake; sister Sharlene Ling Sullivan of Spokane; grandchildren Craig (Wendy) Johnson of Alice, Texas; Patricia (Rob) Auchmoody of Pasco; Jason (Julie) Lynch of Kennewick; Lindsey Johnson of Sun Valley, Idaho; Kyle Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind .; great-grandchildren Rachael and Kendra of Texas; Mikayla and Kaitlyn Lynch of Kennewick, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who loved Granny J.
A memorial service is being held on Saturday, March 29, at 4 p.m. at Memories at Sunset Event Center, 915 Bypass Hwy in Richland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests individuals consider a kind note and story of Granny J and a donation in her name to Inland Northwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 910 W 5th Avenue, Ste. 256, Spokane, WA 99204. Alzheimer’s was a cause close to her heart as a long-term volunteer for a local Alzheimer’s care facility.
