Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
It is getting close to a year since we had an armed assault on a power station in California and we have no answers from our government.
Last April 16 a person or persons slipped into an underground vault outside of San Jose. Telephone cables were cut in a way that made them difficult to repair. Cameras picked up a streak of light about a half hour later and snipers opened fire.
The shooter appeared to be aiming at the transformer’s cooling systems that were filled with oil. The system leaked 52,000 gallons that caused the system to crash. There was another flash of light and the shooting, which had gone on for almost 20 minutes, stopped.
Seventeen giant transformers that feed electrical current to Silicon Valley were knocked out. The shooters disappeared just minutes before police arrived. There was no big blackout as officials were able to reroute power.
People from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission stated that this was the most significant incident of domestic terrorism involving the grid that has ever occurred. If the attack were replicated around the country, it could take down the entire electrical grid.
What is Homeland Security doing?
