Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
After four years of providing service primarily to the Spokane area, Strohmaier Construction, Inc., has relocated to Ritzville.
Business owner Kyle Strohmaier made the decision to move the business to Ritzville in order to utilize his talents at constructing high quality projects while providing his services to residents of rural communities.
While Strohmaier enjoys working on large projects and full remodels, he is also committed and eager to work on smaller improvement projects for area residents.
He explained the size of the project does not matter, and he simply enjoys helping his customers by providing them with detailed and high quality improvements for their homes.
Strohmaier said he is hoping to complete most of his projects within the neighboring communities to reduce travel time between projects and because overall, he enjoys working with the local cliental. He said his favorite projects range from bathrooms and kitchens, to siding and trim work.
The variety of projects keeps him engaged and continually finding a new element of his craft that he enjoys.
As a detail-orientated person, Strohmaier focuses on taking time on every project to ensure it is done correctly and to the highest of his ability. It does not matter if the project is large or small, Strohmaier said, he just enjoys helping the client by providing an attractive and beneficial improvement.
A graduate of Odessa High School, Strohmaier is familiar with the area and is excited to have moved not only his business, but also his family, to the community. Strohmaier said he has always had a desire to return to a small town and raise a family there.
Strohmaier purchased a house in Ritzville around three months ago and moved to the community with his wife Raena and 20-month-old daughter Presley. The family lives in close proximity to the park, pool and schools, and Strohmaier is excited to raise his family in safe and welcoming community.
Strohmaier’s mother, Cathy, is a Ritzville High School graduate while his father John graduated from Lind High School.
“It seemed like a good fit,” Strohmaier said about moving to Ritzville. “I really like the small town aspect.”
“It’s a slower paced life. Sometimes you have to work long hours in this job, but I don’t want everything to be fast paced,” he continued. “We’re centrally located and everybody knows everybody. Families look out for each other.”
For Strohmaier, he has learned his trade from the ground up through hands on activities. He originally began construction during college when he completed small maintenance upgrades and repairs at an apartment complex his grandfather owned in Spokane. He eventually began working on full renovations at the complex after graduating from college.
Strohmaier said his first construction project began alongside his father doing tile work at the family’s lake house. He explained they also completed a lot of finish work and installed cabinets, and he began to learn how much he enjoyed working with his hands.
Like his father, who enjoys construction as a hobby, Strohmaier is self-taught in the field, but spent five years working in construction prior to starting his construction business. Strohmaier received a marketing degree from Eastern Washington University and explained the schooling has helped him manage and run his own business.
While he is the sole employee for his business, he uses the same electrician and subcontractors for his projects. He enjoys the consistency and believes it is necessary to work with the same people so he can ensure each client is receiving the best service possible.
Strohmaier said out of all potential projects, he personally has the most fun with full kitchen remodels, one of which he recently completed in Ritzville.
“I like to go in and meet with the perspective client, and get a feel for what they would like and implement it into what they want to do,” Strohmaier said.
The most important aspect of his job is listening and understanding the client, Strohmaier said. He offers his professional opinion on aspects he believes could be improved, but always puts the customers wants first as it is ultimately their project. He constantly asks questions in order to ensure his ideas and designs are exactly what the customer desires.
Strohmaier provides free in home estimates before beginning a project and said full room remodels can take a couple of months to complete, due to permits and inspections. He explained smaller projects come in handy during those times when he has to wait on permits, but ultimately he is dedicated to the one major project.
Currently, Strohmaier is still continuing to accept jobs in the Spokane area, but hopes in the future he can fully dedicate himself to the more rural areas of eastern Washington.
He understands the benefits of living in a rural community, and he is hoping his expertise can help build and improve homes in the communities he values.
“My goal is, I’d like to stay as busy as possible in Ritzville and the surrounding areas, and build up a big customer base where it’s word of mouth,” he said, “and to always make sure the customer is happy.”
