Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Community leaders in Lind are reaching out to residents in an effort to create a Lind Improvements For Everyone (LIFE) committee within the town. The intent for the LIFE committee is to create a networking organization within the Lind community that benefits the town by having individuals volunteer their time to assist with a variety of projects.
The idea of creating a LIFE committee began after Mayor Jamie Schmunk learned about the LIFE committee active in Leavenworth, and how the efforts of the committee helped rebuild and improve the town.
Leaders from the local churches, Lind organizations and community members have begun having round table meetings to discuss the potential of the committee and voice their opinions about the services the committee should provide.
The discussions so far have led to the intent of the committee to focus primarily on bettering the houses in the community to create a more welcoming and appealing atmosphere for potential homeowners. The LIFE committee is also interested in helping current residents improve their homes if there is a need.
Overall the structure of the committee would be based on a phone-tree system, where one person is contacted with an immediate need in the community and would reference contacts on a list. Committee members and volunteers would be listed by individual expertise, and those individuals in the category of help needed would be contacted first.
The variety of expertise can expand from researching grants, to woodworking, to landscaping, and no talent or volunteer will be turned away. The intent of the LIFE committee is to be available to all Lind residents to assist with any need that will benefit and improve Lind.
The LIFE committee is hoping to slowly build the outreach by completing smaller projects first. Any individual who is interested in improving the community is encouraged to join the committee.
The LIFE committee will not hold regular meetings and will only meet if, and when, committee members deem necessary. The purpose of the committee is not meant to be a constant obligation and responsibility of volunteers, but rather an outreach and networking program available at any time for residents.
Any individual interested in learning more about the LIFE committee or joining the group as a volunteer is asked to contact Schmunk at 509-347-6696 or by email at [email protected].
