Scholarship available for LRHS seniors

I’m Andrea Estes, Owner of Andy’s Fruit and Produce. I sell fresh fruit and vegetables to the community of Ritzville through the summer months at the parking lot of Sterling Bank. I have done this for over 15 years. My husband died suddenly in November of 2010 of a heart attack while hunting in the Leavenworth area. My life changed instantly. In his memory, I give educational scholarship to local graduating seniors from Chelan and Douglas County areas.

Through the generosity and support from the Ritzville Community, I have decided to expand the scholarship to include the Ritzville/Lind area. This year I will be giving away three, $1,000 scholarships in his memory. The scholarship is available through the community foundation of North Central Washington. There is an application process and criteria for the scholarship. Starting this year the application is available online. Please check out the site at Community Foundation at NCW. The application process is open until the Feb. 15.

My husband, Ron was raised in Wenatchee. He graduated from Wenatchee High School playing on the 1971 undefeated high school football team. The team won the state championship and to this day, no other Wenatchee football team has come close to the record. In honor of this accomplishment Ron started the Lee Bofto Scholarship. Mr. Bofto was the coach of the team. One scholarship is given away in Lee’s name every year in his memory. Ron was passionate about the scholarship, so I decided to honor Ron the same way.

At the time of his sudden death, Ron was an attorney in Wenatchee. He graduated from Central Washington University and then attended law school at Seattle Pacific University. Ron loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was chasing every weekend something with wings, gills, feathers or legs.

My life has changed and I’m so thankful for the support and friends I have in the Ritzville community. His memory will live on.

I’m looking forward to the applications and want to thank everyone for the support of my business Andy’s Fruit and Produce.

Andrea “Andy” Estes, Wenatchee
