Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Richard Eugene Grams, age 60, died Jan. 5. Richard was born April, 8, 1953, the oldest of three children born to Ron and Claudia Eichner Grams.
He graduated from Ritzville High School in 1971 then attended WSU and Grays Harbor Community College, where he earned a degree in fisheries and carpentry. Richard and Jadine Brewer were married on Sept. 8, 1973, and are the parents of Janell Grams and Rodney Grams.
While Richard lived in Grays Harbor, he enjoyed ocean fishing and clam digging. Richard and Jadine moved to Oregon where he had a carpentry business with a friend. While living there he enjoyed bowling, fishing and was active in Jaycees.
In 1979, Richard and Jadine moved back to Ritzville where he helped on the family farm and started a carpentry business. A few years later he was given the opportunity to manage a state liquor agency, which he did for about 20 years until his health prevented him from working full time.
In conjunction with the liquor store, Richard owned R2J2 Pizza and making pizzas was his favorite work. For several years, he enjoyed donating his time, pizzas, and serving as a cook at Camp Wooten. He was presented with a Camp Wooten sweatshirt naming him the pizza man.
Richard was an accomplished carpenter and he enjoyed building a variety of things. His hobbies included building and flying RC airplanes, building train layouts and playing micro armor table war games. Richard was a sportsman all his life and particularly loved fishing, hunting and golf.
Richards was medically disabled, but he didn’t let it stop him for long. He was always doing something for someone and had a couple of part time jobs performing maintenance and lawn care. If he could do something from his wheelchair, he would. Anyone knowing Richard knew he was a gentle soul and a loving son, husband and parent.
He was preceded in death by his mother Claudia in 2008.
He is survived by father Ron; wife Jadine; children Janell and Rodney; brother Dale (Bonnie) Grams; and sister Holli (Steve) Kembel.
At Richard’s request there will be no services; his ashes will be scattered at the ocean, one of his favorite places.
Arrangements are entrusted to Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville.
Memorials may be sent to Ritzville Volunteer Ambulance Association (RVAA), c/o Mark Shepherd, 903 S Adams, Ritzville, WA 99196 or Adams County Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 311, Ritzville, WA 99169.
