Residents thanked for donations

On behalf of our college batch- Cor Dei Humanitas 2001, I would like to thank the staff of the Life Care Center of Ritzville and the community of Ritzville for your support in our relief operation for the Typhoon Victims in the Philippines, particularly in my hometown Iloilo.

After hearing and seeing the devastation that the typhoon brought to our hometown, our college batch decided to work with a Church group “The Lingkod Ng Paninoon” (Servants of God) to organize a fundraising campaign to provide assistance to the victims in whatever means we can like relief foods, medicines, used clothing, etc.

We have completed the first part of our relief operation, which is to distribute relief foods to the victims. We are not starting our second part which is to help them re-start their source of livelihood.

The towns that are severely affected are coastal towns and their main source of living is fishing. All of their fishing boats were destroyed.

The money that we collected from the fundraising will be used to buy material to build their boats. One small boat is equivalent to 2,000 pesos ($45). This livelihood project will help the people get on their feet back again.

I would personally like to thank Joise Campbell, Annie Telecky and Terry Abney for organizing and facilitation the bake sale and the raffle. The winner of the basket raffle was Scott Yaeger.

Words cannot express how grateful we are and the people of Iloilo for your help and support. God bless you all!

Sheila Gajardo, Ritzville
