Moving out of our comfort zone

It’s so cozy and comfortable sitting in front of a fireplace in a living room when you know the temperature outside is below freezing. Wintertime can be fun to view from the safety and comfort of a warm home just looking out the window.

The snow and ice can be delightful to take in visually, as long as you do not spend too much time outside being exposed to the unsavory elements. You can put your health at risk if you easily catch a cold or the winter flu.

The very thought of moving out of a comfortable and safe setting into the freezing cold is very unnerving to some people. Moving to a different environment for those accustomed to being in a very familiar place is unthinkable for so many.

Moving out of a comfort zone may not be literal as stepping away from a warm home out into the winter cold. It may take a different form, such as attending an event that you normally would not attend, or meeting new people you never thought you would have anything in common with.

For so many readers of this monthly “Pastor’s Perspective” column, an unfamiliar environment outside of your comfort zone may be a sporting event, art museum, senior center, or even a church.

You may feel very uncomfortable meeting people you find to be strange based on their appearance. Resolve to set aside prejudices and meet new people in new surroundings.

In this New Year, do not be afraid to move out of your comfort zone to some unfamiliar surroundings.

If you haven’t visited a church in some time, you will be welcome in any local house of worship where you can find out what you have been missing.
