On Friday the Lady Broncos looked solid as they dismantled Reardan, 53-33. The next evening things didn’t bounce their way in the final seconds of a league outing against St. George’s. LRS dropped that game, 46-45.
With 4.5 seconds remaining in the game, the Lady Broncos had the ball out-of-bounds under their own basket on Saturday. The inbound pass didn’t reach its target and bounced away, giving St. George’s the win after LRS had battled back in the fourth quarter to take a five-point lead.
“We had some momentum and then just some silly things happened,” head coach John Galbreath said. “We have more weapons. It should have been a different outcome. We gave the game away due to inexperience.”
Galbreath said his team is struggling during away games.
“We definitely have to be a better team on the road,” he said. “We have to dial it in. We have had three kind of poor road games.”
Prior to Saturday’s game, Galbreath warned his players that St. George’s would try to slow things down.
“I told them, make sure we control the tempo and play at a high level of intensity,” he said. “When you let them control the tempo you are not going to beat a team like that. They want to lull you to sleep and get you to play at their speed and pace.”
Jenna Bennett led the team scoring with 14 points. Dalyn Killian and Mallory Kessler each added nine. Tessa Jantz scored five points and Sydney Nelson and Randi York each had four.
Friday, the Lady Broncos didn’t give Reardan any chances.
“I was happy with the energy we played with and the intensity,” Galbreath said. “I thought overall, things clicked. Everybody scored, we moved the ball and we executed.”
Bennett was the team’s leading scorer again with 13.
Jantz delivered 10 points and Kessler contributed nine.
York finished with five while Killian, Nelson and Felicia Ziemer each scored four.
Tommie Swannack and Kallie Harder each scored two.
