With wins over Liberty and Reardan at the Bi-County 2B Volleyball Tournament Saturday, the Lady Broncos have advanced to the Regional Tournament with an opening round match at 10:45 a.m. in Pasco.
They will play Tri-Cities Prep at Chiawana High School to start the day.
If they win, they will advance to face the winner of Davenport versus Dayton. If they lose to Tri-Cities Prep, they will meet the loser from the same pairing.
The loser bracket game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The winner’s bracket match would be played at 2:15 p.m.
Coach Cari Galbreath is confident her team will do well and expects them to be one of the five teams to advance from the regional event to the state tournament next weekend in Yakima.
“I am really optimistic,” she said. “Our girls are a lot more mature and experienced and healthy this season.
“I don’t know much about Tri-Cities Prep. I know they beat Columbia-Burbank. We lost to Columbia-Burbank in five sets without Dalyn due to an ankle injury.”
Galbreath said she got chills during the Bi-County match with Davenport. Even though the Lady Broncos fell in three sets, they scared Davenport in the third set.
The scores were 11-25, 13-25 and 23-25.
At one point in the third set, the Lady Broncos held the lead, 14-8, and battled through the entire set.
“Davenport gave me chills,” Galbreath said. “With missing three of our starters, we had them worried there for a little bit. That was really nice to see.”
The Lady Broncos started the Bi-County Tournament with a win over Liberty in three sets, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-14.
After losing to Davenport, they defeated Reardan in four sets, 25-15, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-8.
In the battle for the third and fourth place seed to the regional event, the Lady Broncos fell to Northwest Christian, 25-15, 15-25, 23-25, 27-25 and 11-15.
Fatigue and missing a trio of players contributed to the NWC loss.
“Knowing our bench was shallow and it was our fourth match, I felt like with our circumstances I was pleased with the effort,” Galbreath said.
Three members of the team were named to the All-Opponent roster: Dalyn Killian, Jenna Bennett and Mallory Kessler.
