The Lady Tigercats battled against Colton on Thursday night in the final league match of the season. The Lady Tigercats honored two seniors, Lindsey Miller and Kadie Whinery, prior to the start of the match in LaCrosse.
The LW squad struggled early and the first set went handily in favor of Colton, who swept the court with a 25-4 score over the Lady Tigercats. The team returned to the court with renewed focus in the second set and battled to an 18-25 loss to Colton.
The final set of the night also went in favor of Colton, but the Lady Tigercats continued to battle and narrowed the scoring gap to 20-25.
During the first set of the evening, the Lady Tigercats faced minor mistakes, which eventually added points for the Colton team. The team struggled to communicate on serve receive and provide coverage at the net, resulting in Colton finding the holes in the Lady Tigercats’ defense.
As the match progressed, the Lady Tigercats began communicating and balancing their platform to perfect passes to the setter. The improvements led to the Lady Tigercats battling at the net with Colton and creating rallies.
Brooklynn Hostetler stepped up to lead the team on both offense and defense, by racking up six digs and four aces. Miller contributed four assists and Whinery added three kills to the Lady Tigercats stats for the night.
“Brooklynn Hostetler was a leader at our Colton game. She remains focused and positive,” head coach Sarah Mayer explained. “She is intentional with all of her actions and words. She is constantly willing to do what it takes and adapt to the opposing team.”
“It was our senior night and Lindsey and Kadie’s last LaCrosse home game. They are two of our key players and have worked very hard for their team,” Mayer said.
The Lady Tigercats hosted Tri-Cities Prep in Washtucna on Tuesday in a nonleague match, and earned a three set win: 25-19, 25-22, and 25-13. The three-set win helped boost the Lady Tigercats confidence and excitement for beginning the district playoff competition next week.
Hostetler continued to be a leader, earning five aces against TCP. Gail Harder added four digs and eight kills, while Nicole Harder put up 18 assists for the Lady Tigercats. Britte Harder earned one block at the net.
The Lady Tigercats begin the district playoff competition on Monday and Mayer said the team is working to continue to be a solid team on the court.
“Our main focus going into the district playoff match is to eliminate unforced errors and to play smart and consistent. This is very basic but effective,” Mayed said. “Eliminating our errors, allows us to gain positive momentum.”
