Schools to host events in Washtucna, Kahlotus, LaCrosse

The Kahlotus Music Department is hosting the Southeast Washington Region Junior High Mass Band and Choir Festival in Braddock Gymnasium, Kahlotus on Nov. 5. The festival concludes with a concert open to the public at 6:30 p.m.

Six hundred students are expected to participate from Asotin, Clarkston, Colfax, Colton, Dayton, Garfield-Palouse, Kahlotus, LaCrosse, Oakesdale, Pullman, Rosalia, St. John-Endicott, Tekoa, Touchet, Waitsburg and Washtucna.

Guest conductors for the festival are Columbia Basin College Choir Director Kathy Mancinelli, and Lee Shook, director of the Gonzaga and Whitworth band. Composer and conductor Lee Shook has written band piece “Dixieland Jam” especially for the Southeast Washington Region Junior High Mass Band and Choir Festival.

Admission for the concert is $10 for families, $4 for adults $4, $3 for students and seniors, and preschool students are free.

On Friday, Nov. 8, there will be a Veterans Day Program at Kahlotus High School at 10 a.m. in Braddock Gymnasium, and Washtucna School at 1 p.m. in the gym.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Tickets are on sale for three Madrigal Dinner performances in December put on by music students from Kahlotus, LaCrosse and Washtucna. The menu for the event is mixed green salad, roasted chicken, rice pilaf, green beans, dinner roll, cherry crumble, and festive punch or coffee.

The setting is a 15th century English castle and features royal court singers, a court jester, instrumentalists and skits.

The performance tickets are $12 and must be pre-purchased before Wednesday, Nov. 27, and can be arranged through each school office and secretary. There are no child meals, as the performances are geared toward school age children and older.

The first performance is in LaCrosse on Monday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. The second performance is scheduled in Kahlotus on Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the final performance in Washtucna on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m.
