Lady Broncos sweep NWC

Saturday afternoon was a great experience for the Lady Broncos.

For the first time in recent memory, they defeated the Northwest Christian Lady Crusaders in league volleyball. And, they did it in grand fashion, shutting down NWC and sweeping them in three games, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-23.

“Northwest Christian seemed rattled and out of rotation at times,” said Kathy McAnally who is filling in for head coach Cari Galbreath. “Our girls played extremely well. They were just really steady from beginning to end.”

Dalyn Killian was very effective with her blocks at the net, she finished with 13 kills and two blocks during the match.

“Our defense was stronger,” McAnally said.

McAnally said the NWC team plays an aggressive club volleyball style where the offense expects to have opponents on their heels. This didn’t happen Saturday in Colbert. Even when NWC started tipping over the heads of the LRS front row, the Lady Broncos were able to adjust and maintain control of the game.

McAnally said Jenna Bennett made a quick adjustment from the back row, taking away NWC’s advantage.

“After the match, I wouldn’t change a thing. It was a really fun game to coach. Even the fans said it was a really fun match to watch,” McAnally said.

Galbreath, who hopes to return from maternity leave in the next few days was also pleased.

“I was so excited for the Lady Broncos when I received the text that they sealed the deal at NWC in three sets,” she said. “I’m so thrilled about that win.”

For the match, Jana Mattox finished with two digs. Sydney Nelson had two kills, 11 assists and three digs. Soraida Chavez had an ace and one dig. Bennett collected four kills, nine assists and six digs. Elizabeth Schofstoll had one ace and two kills.

The Lady Broncos won a non league match at Royal City on Tuesday night in three games, 25-10, 25-8 and 25-14.
