The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Tigercats went on the road last Friday night to take on the Soap Lake Eagles, and returned home with the second nonleague loss of the season. The Tigercats, who put the first points on the board, ended the night with a score of 48-14 in favor of the Eagles.
The Tigercats jumped out to an early lead when Stephen Erickson carried the ball to the end zone on a 10-yard run. A completed pass from quarterback Joey Guske to Bo Rice on the two-point conversion gave the Tigercats an 8-0 advantage over the Eagles.
The Eagles went on a 28-point unanswered scoring run in the first half, with quarterback Joe Cutshall passing for 170 yards and scoring three touchdowns for the team in the game. The Tigercats struggled to contain the Eagles in the backfield, and the Eagles outran the Tigercats for multiple touchdowns.
The Tigercats trailed the Eagles 8-20 at the end of the first quarter after the Eagles ran a 50-yard handoff into the end zone, converted a short four-yard pass play and had a 60-yard punt return against the Tigercats.
The LWK team held the Eagles to eight points in the second quarter, with the only points of the quarter coming off of a 20-yard pass place from the Eagles quarterback. The Tigercats went into halftime with a score of 8-28.
The Eagles got off to a strong start in the third quarter with a 90-yard opening kickoff return against the Tigercats defense.
The Tigercats were unable to respond to the Eagles 20-point scoring drive in the third quarter.
The Tigercats found the end zone again in the fourth quarter when freshman back-up quarterback Garrett Correll connected with Rice on a five-yard pass play. The Tigercats’ two-point conversion running play was stopped short by the Eagles’ defense.
The Tigercats held the Eagles scoreless in the fourth quarter and ended the nonleague game with a score of 48-14. The Tigercats go on the road again this week to participate in the final nonleague match up before league play begins next week. The Tigercats kick off another week of play in Wallowa, Ore., at McLaughlin High School against Milton-Freewater at 7 p.m.
