Adams County Sheriff's Office Report

July 12, 10:51 p.m. – Lind complainant advised of animals attacking something in the area of South St. Claire Avenue. Deputy Dan Verhey checked the area and spoke with the complainant who advised the sounds were coming from the west side of town, near the sheep pasture. No suspicious animals were located in the area.

July 12, 5:53 p.m. – Hatton complainant advised of a suspicious vehicle on Apple Valley Lane. Sergeant Brian Taylor contacted the complainant who stated the vehicle left the area in an unknown direction.

July 11, 3:11 p.m. – Complainant advised of a broken crossing arm on North Highway 395 and North Paha-Packard Road. Burlington Northern Santa Fe was contacted and advised a technician was en route to repair it.

July 11, 12:45 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a possible threat on North Deal Road. Deputy Jeffrey Lane attempted to contact the complainant with no success. Deputy Andrew Boothman contacted the victim via telephone who advised they were threatened by an unknown subject and wished to speak to legal counsel before providing a statement.

July 11, 8:59 a.m. – Ritzville complainant advised of a malicious mischief complaint on North Paha-Packard Road. Deputy Aaron Madison contacted the complainant who advised sometime in the last week a portion of their propane tanks were vandalized.

July 10, 9:21 p.m. – Washtucna complainant advised of a coyote that ran into a garage on South Ash Lane, and they believe it is dying. Complainant further advised they have no firearms to dispatch the animal. Complainant advised they will call back if the coyote becomes a danger.

July 10, 6:50 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a possible suicide attempt on North Suko Road in Ritzville. Deputy Verhey responded to assist Ritzville Police Chief Dave McCormick locate the subject. Chief McCormick transported the subject to the hospital.

July 10, 11:04 a.m. – Lind complainant called to report a stolen car in Yakima. Complainant further advised the Yakima Police advised they file the complaint in Ritzville and have the report forwarded to Yakima.

July 10, 9:51 a.m. – Hatton complainant advised of a suspicious vehicle parked on Cherry Street and Fourth Avenue. Complainant further advised the vehicle had been there since early morning but no subjects have been observed near it. Deputy Ned Bernath responded and observed the vehicle with a flat right tire and the trunk propped open. No signs of a crime were observed. Dep. Bernath attempted to contact the registered owner but the number was disconnected.

July 10, 8:34 a.m. – Ritzville complainant brought in a wallet found on Highway 21 near Highway 395. Deputy Lane contacted the owner of the wallet to obtain an address to return it too.

July 8, 9:04 p.m. – While on patrol in Washtucna, Deputy Ben Buriak was contacted by a complainant who advised they had locked their keys in their vehicle on East Highway 26. Dep. Buriak called the tow company and transported the subject back to their vehicle.

July 8, 11:04 a.m. – Lind complainant called to request a hulk vehicle form on East Eighth Street. Deputy Bernath responded with the forms requested.

July 8, 10:22 a.m. – Complainant from Basalt, Idaho, called to request assistance in contacting a Washtucna subject regarding an estate settlement. Deputy Bernath attempted contact with the subject and left contact information.

July 8, 8:55 a.m. – While on patrol, Deputy Bernath observed two dogs running on I-90 near Hwy 261 westbound followed by two state patrol officers. Dep. Bernath observed one of the dogs jump from the overpass and land next to Hwy 261 and limped off with a broken leg toward Ritzville. Dep. Bernath advised dispatch to notify animal control to collect the dog.

July 7, 3:41 p.m. – Adams County Fire Protection District No. 1 advised of a male and female arguing outside a car at a location on North Paha-Packard Road. Deputy Bernath responded to the scene and spoke with both subjects separately. Both advised no assault had taken place, the argument was only verbal due to a suspicious text message the male subject received. Dep. Bernath offered a courtesy ride to the female subject to town to make arrangements to get home. Both parties advised they would ride home together.

July 7, 3:22 p.m. – Washington State Patrol requested assistance in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run collision on Eastbound I-90 near milepost 231. Deputy Bernath responded to assist, while en route dispatch advised Ritzville Police Officer Hunter Klewin located the vehicle entering Ritzville.

July 7, 11:02 a.m. – Dispatch advised of three male subjects guarding the women’s restrooms at the I-90 Schrag Rest Area. Deputy Bernath responded via I-90. Upon arrival, Dep. Bernath observed several female travelers going in and out of the restroom. Dep. Bernath contact a female subject who advised there was no problem when they arrived and all appeared okay in the restroom. Dep. Bernath contacted a Department of Transportation attendant who was working there who advised there were no problems that they knew of.

July 6, 9:54 p.m. – Deputy Verhey assisted the Ritzville Police with a rolling domestic on West Galbreath Way. Dep. Verhey advised Sergeant Taylor about the request.

July 5, 4:43 p.m. – Benge complainant advised contact was made with a suspicious subject on South Benge-Washtucna Road in Washtucna. Complainant stated the subject is not from the area and is believed to be taking things from the property. The property owner requested the subjects be trespassed from the property. Dep. Verhey made phone contact with the subject who stated they were not on the property, they had pulled over to use the restroom.

July 5, 3:46 p.m. – Ritzville complainant advised of a male subject that is in violation of a no-contact order on East Lind-Ralston Road. Deputy Verhey contacted the complainant who provided a verbal statement and will provide a written statement when they can. Attempts were made to contact the subject. There is probable cause for the suspects arrest.

July 4, 6:00 p.m. – Lind complainant advised of three to four male subjects on West First Avenue lighting fireworks around their horses. Deputy Verhey responded to search the area.

July 3, 7:04 p.m. – While on patrol, Deputy Lane observed a male subject on Highway 21 and Highway 395. Upon contact the subject advised they had broke down and were waiting for a ride from the Tri-Cities. Dep. Lane transported the subject to a nearby gas station to await their ride.

July 3, 3:38 p.m. – Deputy Lane responded to an agency assist call on North Rand Lane. Ritzville Police requested assistance with an arrest.

July 3, 12:10 p.m. – Deputy Brad Zook responded to a suspicious 911 hang up call on Haase Road in Washtucna. Prior to Dep. Zook’s arrival, dispatch contacted the homeowner who advised their five-year-old had accidentally dialed the number. Upon arrival, Dep. Zook observed everything was fine at the residence.

July 2, 6:38 p.m. – While on patrol, Sergeant Taylor observed a male subject driving who is known suspended in the first degree and interlock required. Sgt. Taylor searched the subject and located a clear, crystal substance in their shirt pocket. Lamont Gerald Shafer was booked into Adams County Jail for driving offenses. Additional charges are pending results from crime lab.

July 2, 4:06 p.m. – Washtucna complainant advised their friends dog is missing. Complainant advised the dog is a male Golden Retriever named Luke with no collar. Adams County Pet Rescue was notified.

July 2, 8:05 a.m. – Ritzville complainant advised they found a female mini Pinscher with no collar on East Timm Lane. ACPR was advised.

July 1, 6:43 p.m. – Lind complainant advised they spoke to a subject in Hatton who intended on hurting themselves. Deputy Bernath responded to assist deputies on scene.

July 1, 4:57 p.m. – Pasco complainant advised of a vehicle collision on West Lee Road and South Lobe Road in Lind. Deputy Bernath responded to file a collision report.

July 1, 3:54 p.m. – Lind complainant advised of a domestic in progress on East Fifth Street. Deputy Madison responded, upon arrival both parties had left the residence. A female subject was later located and advised Dep. Madison it was a verbal argument only.

July 1, 2:19 p.m. – Lind complainant requested contact regarding a suspicious person walking around the area during the day and night. Deputy Bernath contacted the complainant who stated they would like extra patrols in the area.

July 1, 1:59 p.m. – A report was generated for sex offender address verification on May Avenue in Washtucna.

July 1, 1:47 p.m. – A report was generated for sex offender address verification on S Street in Lind.

July 1, 1:43 p.m. – A report was generated for sex offender address verification on Adams Street in Ritzville.

July 1, 1:34 p.m. – A report was generated for sex offender address verification on Pine Avenue in Ritzville.

July 1, 1:29 a.m. – While on patrol, Deputy Verhey found an unsecured door on North I Street in Lind. The building was checked and nothing appeared to be disturbed. Dep. Verhey requested the owner be contacted by day-shift personnel.

June 30, 6:47 p.m. – Lind complainant called and advised a juvenile had packed up their belongings and left the residence on West First Street. Deputies Lane and Buriak contacted the juvenile and determined there was a verbal altercation at the residence and the juvenile used it to try to leave. The juvenile was escorted back to the residence where the matter was resolved.

June 30, 4:57 p.m. – Washtucna complainant advised of a citizen dispute on South Church Street. Complainant stated items sold at the estate sale were promised to the complainant. Sergeant Taylor contacted the executor of the estate who stated the items were sold while they were away. Complainant requested several items be removed from the home. Sgt. Taylor stood by while a list of items was given to the executor.

June 30, 3:54 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a group of subjects trespassing on railroad property and jumping off the train trestle into Palm Lake. Deputies Lane and Buriak checked the area and didn’t locate anyone. Dispatch later advised the complainant called to notify the subjects were gone.
