Young beef showmen from across Washington traveled to Ritzville May 18 to exhibit in the first annual Wheatland Jackpot Show. Sixteen exhibitors and 20 steers in total took part in the premier event, exceeding the attendance goal of the show’s founders.
In addition to the $25 entry fee, Agri-Beef, Cattle Producers of Washington, Connell Oil, TC Cattle Co., Kulm Farms, Boersma Farms, McRae Ranch, Doug and Lisa Hanson, and 4W Ranch provided generous sponsorship money. The total Jackpot awarded to exhibitors neared $2,000.
Madison Dixon of Pomeroy exhibited the top prospect steer and received $500 in prize money. Second place went to Brynna Wilson of Stanwood, receiving $300. Dustin Broeckel of LaCrosse earned third place and received $100. All class winners and exhibitors received cash awards, along with an embroidered blanket commemorating the event.
The show also featured a special class of prospect steers expected to take part in the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair this fall. TyAnn Tellefson received first and second place, and was awarded gift certificates from Connell Oil. Abbie Gering, Tara Tellefson, and Bryce Pichette received additional cash awards from 4W Ranch.
Plans are underway to build on the show’s success and to increase local participation.
