LW tennis team improves on the court

The LaCrosse-Washtucna tennis team found success during the last week against Chewelah, St. George’s and Reardan. The Tigercats’ singles players for both the boys and the girls continue to dominate on the court and become more competitive in league matches.

The Tigercats hosted Chewelah in LaCrosse on April 10 and played all pro-sets due to weather conditions. In the number one boys singles match, senior athlete Justin Wargo defeated Ben Johnstone 8-4.

Lura Potter faced Tenika Smith in the number one girls’ match and also took the win with an 8-4 score. Brooklynn Hostetler faced her first loss of the season against Chewelah’s Ryann Richmond, losing 8-5 in the pro-set.

The Tigercats’ doubles team struggled to earn wins during the match and eventually ended with Chewelah sweeping the doubles competition. Becka Kenney and Bethany Kofmehl defeated Chelsie Kneale and Amber McCabe 8-2.

Levi Allen and Douglas McKeen played in the number one and two doubles matches. The Tigercat duo lost the number one doubles match to Collin Kirkpatterson and Mason Miller 8-1, and the number two doubles match to Sam Cobb and Tommy Norman 8-0.

The Tigercats traveled to St. George’s on April 13 and returned home with 3-1 record, with the girls winning all of their matches.

Potter controlled the number one singles competition earning the win with a 6-1, 6-0 score over Audrey Yeager. Hostetler continued the Tigercats’ winning streak in the number two singles competition by defeating Raena Rankin 6-0, 6-0.

Kneale and McCabe defeated Oliva Schaefer and Rankin 6-1, 6-0 in the number one doubles match. Allen and McKeen suffered the only loss of the outing and fell 6-1, 6-0 to Nathan Furbeyre and Peter Worrall.

The Tigercats hosted another home match against Reardan in LaCrosse on April 16 and won all of the singles matches.

Wargo faced Nolan McMurray in the number one singles match and earned a 6-0, 6-0 win. Potter defeated Melissa Macaben 6-0, 6-0 in the number one girls singles match.

Hostetler matched up against Mikayla McCoy in the number two singles match and earned a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The girls’ number one doubles team played the most competitive match in the league competition, but eventually fell to Reardan’s Miranda Bazo and August Matt.

McCabe and Kneale won the first set 6-2, but lost the second set 7-5, forcing a tiebreaker. The Tigercats lost the third set 7-5.

Allen and McKeen faced Anthony Sigismonti and Moss Tangchotsakul but faced defeat with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

The Tigercats travel to Ritzville on Saturday, April 20, to face the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos at 11 a.m.
