Construction begins on $3.2 million wastewater treatment facility in Lind

The Lind residents can expect to see construction begin alongside Highway 21 for a new wastewater treatment plant facility on Monday, April 22, when Kearsley Construction, Inc. will start moving equipment to the site, just a half of mile west of town.

The town council unanimously approved to hire Kearsley Construction in October as the low bidder on the project with a base bid of $2,553,567, an amount $217,000 over the engineers estimate provided by USKH, Inc. USKH’s civil engineer, Alan Gay, will continue to be the primary engineer on the project.

The total development cost, projected at $3.2 million, is 90 percent funded by the Centennial Grant Program through the Department of Ecology. The Centennial Grant Program is funded through state dollars and is dedicated to improving water quality infrastructure in financially troubled communities.

The new wastewater facility is being constructed alongside the already existing plant, which will be demolished once the new facility is completed and becomes fully functional. The existing wastewater plant was constructed in 1953 and repairs to the plant have become a financial burden on the town, which began drafting plans for a new facility around 15 years ago.
