Victor Eugene Borth

Victor Eugene Borth died at the age of 85, on March 26 in Ritzville.

He was born Aug. 25, 1927, to Rudolph and Barbara (Ottmar) Borth on his uncle Frederick Borth’s farm north of Lind.

Victor was one of six children: Eleanor (Pence), Gloria (Sackmann), Cleve, Barbara (VanBuren), and Marjorie who died as an infant. In 1929, the family moved to a farm north of Paha, where he and his future wife, Bette, would later settle and raise their family of five children: Doug, Vicki, Pam, Denise and Brian.

He attended school in Paha and then graduated from Lind High School in 1946. He married the love of his life Bette Maier on June 12, 1948. They lived in Lind for a short time then moved to the family farm north of Paha where he was raised. He was a wheat farmer and took great pride in caring for the land throughout his lifetime.

Over the years he had many interests such as trap shooting, collecting antiques, collecting watch fobs, antique cars, and coin collecting. He was an exceptional carpenter always paying close attention to every detail. He was a member and served on the board of his church, Lind Community Church, in many capacities throughout his lifetime. He was also a member and served in many capacities on the boards of the Lind Active Club, Lind Gun Club, Lind Alumni Association and Lind Grange.

He loved his family dearly and cherished the times they gathered together for family events. Health issues prompted Victor to move to Rose Garden Estates in Ritzville in the fall of 2011.

He had a very meaningful life full of love, and his family feels blessed to have been able to make so many precious memories with him.

His family would like to recognize the staff at Rose Garden Estates, especially Marie and Carol, for all the love and compassion given in caring for their parents; the hospice staff, for the support and extra care given to him and his family; to Pastor Jeremy for his many visits to encourage, prayers for strength and his singing to uplift the family.

He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Joshua Kulm; and sisters, Marjorie, Eleanor and Gloria.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Bette; two sons, Douglas (Linda) Borth of Walla Walla, and Brian (Diane) Borth of Ritzville; three daughters, Vicki (Mike) Younker of Mt. Vernon, Pamela Kulm of Ritzville, and Denise (Brent) Tompkins of Prescott; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Lind Community Church on March 30. Danekas Funeral Home of Ritzville is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to Lind Community Church, PO Box 119, Lind WA 99341.
