Wrestlers headed to District tourney

The LRS Broncos wrestling team traveled to Liberty on Saturday, Jan. 26, for the final league meet of the season.

Matthias Ferderer wrestled at 106 pounds against Mitch Barney of Colfax and lost by pin. He then wrestled his teammate Kyle Ritz and lost by pin.

Ritz went on to wrestle at 113 against Barney, losing by pin. He then went against Kain Feltwell of Liberty and lost by pin. Ritz then wrestled Ferderer and won by pin.

Keanu Niezwaag, 145, wrestled Dalton McNiely of Colfax and won by pin.

Nick Kuest, 152, wrestled Zach Buchanan of Almira-Coulee/Hartline and won by pin.

He then wrestled Josh Miller of Garfield-Palouse and lost by pin. Kuest also wrestled his teammate Karl Hawks and won by pin.

Hawks, at 160, also wrestled Kevin Knaff of Gar-Pal and lost by pin.

Ethan Melville, 160, wrestled Knaff of Gar-Pal and lost by pin. He then went against Trevor McClearly of ACH and lost by a score of 4-0. Melville finished up against Josh Miller of Gar-Pal and won by pin.

Alexis Guizar, 220, wrestled Kevin Winham of Liberty and won by pin. He then wrestled Levi Seylor of ACH and lost by pin. He also wrestled his teammate, Matt Vercoe, and won by pin.

Vercoe, 285, also wrestled Winham and won by pin.

Layne Hawks, 285, went against Winham and won by pin.

The LRS Broncos team now moves on to the district tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, in Davenport. The weigh-in begins at 8 a.m. with the matches starting at 10 a.m.
