Friends of the Library plan events

The Friends of the Library group has planned a variety of activities and presentations for the public to enjoy throughout the next few months.

The Friends are hosting a three-part gardening series, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. Local beekeeper, Bonnie Kimmel, is presenting to the group about proper beekeeping methods and honey production.

The second and third part of the series will take place in March and April, with dates still to be determined. Sheila Grace is preparing a presentation on composting and vegetable beds for part two of the series, and John Claypool will round out the series with a discussion about community gardening and worm production.

From March 14-16, the organization is hosting the annual book sale in the newly remodeled library basement. Aside from thousands of books, this year’s auction will also include a raffle for a Kindle Fire, a silent auction for surplus furniture and cookies.

During the second day of the book sale, March 15, the organization is welcoming Ryan and Kara Rowe to present to the group at 5 p.m.

The Rowe’s are the authors of “Washington’s Wheat Life: The Art of Scratching Dirt, and will have the newly published book available for purchase and signing.

The book sale and raffle serve as the primary funding opportunity to support the library’s eBook program, computer purchase and provide funds for presentations. The basement remodel funding was provided by the library foundation.
