Lady Broncos net league win at Liberty

The Lady Broncos’ 58-55 league win over Liberty on Tuesday served to ease a bit of the sting from a pair of weekend losses to league opponents.

Friday, LRS was schooled by the state’s best 2B girls basketball team when Reardan rolled to a 71-32 win. On Saturday night, Northwest Christian took a 59-34 win.

“Against Reardan, I think we played better than we did the first time,” coach John Galbreath said. “I thought we improved a little bit. The girls played hard.”

Jenna Bennett led the team with 10 points. Dalyn Killian and Mallory Kessler each had six points. Brooke Pichette scored four and Randi York contributed three points. Haley Oestreich scored two and Sydney Nelson added one.

The Northwest Christian game started out much better for the Lady Broncos. After one quarter, they were trailing by just one, 9-8.

“We started the first quarter fantastic,” Galbreath said. “We came out and set the tone. We played really well and were very competitive. I felt like we came out and showed something we haven’t shown all year.”

The second quarter the momentum didn’t hold and the Lady Crusaders took the edge with an 18-4 effort. The fourth quarter went the same way as NWC outscored LRS 16-8.

“We had trouble scoring consistently the whole game,” Galbreath said. “That’s what happened in the second quarter. We had trouble getting the ball in the hole.”

Killian was the only player in double figures with 11 points. Bennett and Kessler each had five points. Maya Wahl scored four and Oestreich had three. Pichette finished with two, and York and Kristine Lamping each had one point.

During the Liberty win, Bennett led the team with 14 points. Kessler scored 11 and Pichette delivered 10. Killian had eight points in the game and Nelson added six.
