2013 Spokane Ag Expo photo contest winners announced

The winners of the 2013 Spokane Ag Expo Photography contest were announced recently. The theme of the contest was Agriculture in the Inland Northwest.

Winners in the adult category were: First place went to Sarah Anderson of The Dalles, Ore., for her piece titled “A Girl and Her Horse;” Second place went to Karen Baumann of Washtucna, for “Basket of Wheat at Sunset;” Third place was earned by Robert Griffith of Veradale for “Planning Ahead;” Manager’s Choice award also went to Anderson for “The One That Got Away.” Honorable mention was awarded to: Annje Esvelt of Rice, Wash., for “Father and Son;” Diane Foreman of Molt, Mont., for “Old Sees New;” and Char Burrill of Rathdrum, Idaho, for “Riding the Palouse Wind.”

The Greater Spokane Incorporated’s Choice award also went to Baumann for “A Gal and Her Dog.”

Winners in the youth category were: First place went to Micaela Halpin of Mead for “Brotherly Love;” Second place went to Garrett Lewis of Rockford, for “Rows of Color;” Third place went to Anna Naker of Spokane for “Pride and Joy;” Manager’s Choice award went to Halpin for “Apple of My Lens.” Honorable mention was awarded to: Havalah Moran of Greenacres for “Mountain Side Wheat;” Kelsee Peavey of Sprague for “Dog and Haybales;” and Calista Jay of Spokane Valley for “Pumpkin Patch.”

Photographers were asked to submit photos that depict agriculture in the Inland Northwest. Entries were judged in two categories, youth and adult.

All of the 128 photos are to be displayed at the 2013 Spokane Ag Expo, at the Spokane Convention Center Exhibit Halls, which runs from Feb. 5-7. Following the show, the winning photos will be posted on the show website at http://www.agshow.org.

The purpose of the contest is to promote Inland Northwest Agriculture and to give amateur photographers, particularly from rural areas, an opportunity for their work to be shown and recognized.
