Kahlotus DECA students, in collaboration with the FFA, organized and held the Second Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 21, from 6-8 p.m. More than 100 attendees showed up to eat a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings.
Local Kahlotus businesses and community members sponsored the event. The entire month of November, DECA put on a food drive class competition to collect many of the items for the Thanksgiving dinner.
The first and second grade class donated the most items for the second year in a row, and for their contribution, the class gets to keep the “turkey trophy.”
The remaining items, totaling nearly 500 pounds of food, will be distributed into the Kahlotus community through the Kahlotus Lions Club in the following weeks.
The Kahlotus students thank sponsors and volunteers for assistance with the dinner and food drive. Individuals and businesses who contributed to the event are Brian Cochrane and the Cochrane Auto Ranch, The Farmer’s Daughter and Mo-Ro Farms, the Moore family, the Roach family, Nadia Reimer, Mike Huebner, Doug Heider, L’Rae Hopkins, Sharee Beckner, Patti Rogers, Carol Blauert, Anthony Paladino, and Cliff and Clydena Bartlett.
