Lomax to lead Lind Parade

Beverly (Bev) Lomax has the honor of grand marshal during the 13th annual Lind Lighted Christmas Parade, hosted by the Lind Chamber of Commerce, on Sunday, Dec. 9, in downtown Lind.

Bev has lived in Lind off and on since 1974. Bev and her husband, Leo, moved to Lind so he could take a job for Bob Phillips. Bev and Leo were married for 25 years until his passing in 1997.

Since then, Bev has remained in Lind and has played a vital role in the community with her work at the Senior Center, and keeping busy behind the scenes as a member of numerous organizations in the community including: the chamber, Women’s Fellowship, Lind Community Church and the Senior Center.

Bev has four children, Ann Kelley of Conn., Robert Kelley of Stanwood, Roberta Pitkin of Bellevue and Barbara Brent of Kennewick. Robert and Roberta graduated from Lind High School before the family moved to Warden for a brief time. Barbara graduated from Warden and Bev and Leo returned to Lind.

Chamber president Phil Kent and his wife, Carol, delivered the request in person, a card to Bev, expressing the desire to have her honor the chamber by agreeing to be the grand marshal at Sunday night’s parade. Phil said it is the chamber’s way to thank her for her service to the community.

“She is a good member of the community,” Carol said. “She’s been a behind-the-scenes type person for many years, so it’s time she is recognized for her work.”

Bev said that she is so involved because she wants to see the community grow and become more.

“I just stood there and cried,” Bev said. “I was in total shock, because there are so many people that do things for the community. I appreciate it.”

The festivities on Sunday begin at 3 p.m. with Santa pictures and free chili, soup and hotdogs being served at the Lind Senior Center. From 3-5 p.m. the LRS Bronco football team will be at the Grange Hall for a meet and greet reception.

Judging of the parade entries begins promptly at 5 p.m., with the parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. Entries can be registered at the Lind Lions Club from 4:45-5:15 p.m. The chamber reminds those interested in participating that it is a lighted parade and entries need to reflect the spirit of the season.

Additionally, the Christmas lighting contest is to be judged on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 6-8 p.m.
