Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
In 1981, high school quarterback Greg Whitmore took to the field to play in Kingbowl 5 for Entiat.
The eight-man game against Tekoa ended in defeat for the Entiat team.
Just hours before Entiat’s loss, head coach Mike Lynch led his Ritzville football team on to the field to battle in the state championship game against Morton. The game ended in defeat for the Ritzville team as well, losing 28-14 to Morton.
Ten years later, Whitmore became assistant coach for the Broncos, under the direction of Lynch.
The two shared a state title in 2004 after a come-from-behind win over DeSales.
Today, Lynch is assistant football coach and Whitmore is head coach.
Twenty-one years after their paths first crossed, the two men will return to the Tacoma Dome, this time on the same sideline, for a chance at redemption against the Morton-White Pass team.
