Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Who knew? Who knew the city council of Ritzville has been planning these past 15 to 20 years for such a thing as a Love’s Travel Stop. Could it be this Love’s opportunity was not dropped into the Ritzville lap out of the blue, but, the result of careful city planning? And when Love’s agreed to be induced to build in Ritzville, city hall was ready because the necessary planning was in place? Has the necessary planning been done?
Can we be certain that the freeway exits leading to Ritzville will be properly redone so that the truck traffic will not kill the struggling existing businesses? How do we know the proposed new well (that does not exist) will be adequate to take care of the water demands of the citizenry and of Love’s? This project may turn out to be a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of Ritzville. Perhaps the mayor has worked these matters out and there need be no worry.
The mayor also said, “We need limited growth and this is perfect.”
Limited growth is an oxymoron. If it isn’t an oxymoron, it should be. Limited growth is like growth in reverse which is exactly what the power elite has been providing our community for years: a shrinking community. This is a fright! Now that we understand the mayor’s guiding principle, when anyone asks why is Ritzville so poor, we can answer because our leaders follow a “limited growth” philosophy.
