Law enforcement puts its best mustache forward for Movember movement

A group of male members from local law enforcement agencies are participating in “Movember,” a mustache-growing movement geared towards raising awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer. November is men’s health awareness month, and participating law enforcement officers are collecting pledges to donate to charity.

Movember has gained popularity worldwide in the past 10 years, and has now made its way to Adams County. The participating members had to be clean-shaven by Nov. 4, and the competition officially began on Monday, Nov. 5.

Those participating in the Movember competition can collect funds from community members to donate to charity. For every $20 raised, the officer receives extra points, moving them one step closer to the first place prize.

On Nov. 30, a judging competition will take place to award the winner of the best mustache. The Movember winner receives a gift certificate and the opportunity to shave off the mustache of Adams County Sheriff, Doug Barger.

Any individual interested in making a donation or a pledge to a participating law enforcement officer, can contact Aaron Madison or Ben Buriak at the Sheriff’s Office at 659-1122. If desired, individuals can also personally give the monetary pledges to a deputy.
