Lady T-cats struggle during away games

The LaCrosse-Washtucna Lady Tigercats traveled to Liberty Christian on Oct. 4 for hard fought league game. It took five matches to determine the winner of the Thursday night game, but the Lady Tigercats returned home without the league win, with final scores of 26-28, 26-24, 21-25, 25-23 and 13-15.

“Last night’s (Oct. 4) game was an intense game. The girls did a great job working as a team. They communicated well, supported each other and had some fun too,” head coach Sarah Mayer said. “The team played with great intensity; the girls were focused and aggressive.”

Freshman athlete Ashtyn Aune stepped up for the Lady Tigercats to fill the role of setter during the game. Aune currently floats between the junior varsity and varsity team for the Lady Tigercats and is the primary setter for the JV team.

With an outstanding 17 assists during the game, Aune stepped up to lead her team on the court. Aune and Logan Harder connected multiple times as Harder slammed 19 kills through the Liberty Christian defense.

The Lady Tigercats most consistent server and main blocker, Kadie Whinery, stepped up once again to lead her team in both categories. Whinery had two blocks and earned the team six points off of serves during the game.

The Lady Tigercats defense had a remarkable performance with 75 digs on the night. Shayla Sisk earned a third of those and had an impressive performance with 23 digs.

On the night, the Lady Tigercats had a total of 36 kills, 25 assists and three blocks, with 10 aces.

The Lady Tigercats traveled to Palouse High School to face Garfield-Palouse on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The team lost in three matches with scores of 12-25, 13-25 and 16-25.

The team lacked energy during the game, but Harder continued to succeed both offensively and defensively. Harder earned half of the kills for the team with six, and had a notable 22 digs during the game.

Aune stayed as the primary setter for the Lady Tigercats and had five assists on the night. The team only earned eight assists over the course of the evening, but earned 45 digs as a team.

Lindsey Miller served the only ace of the evening, while Whinery led the team at the net with three blocks.

The Lady Tigercats face Pomeroy on Thursday, Oct. 11, beginning at 5 p.m. in Washtucna. During the Thursday game, the Lady Tigercats are also participating in a breast cancer awareness fundraiser.

The team then travels to Rosalia on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with the game beginning at 5 p.m.
